Music Festival Searches Class Action
Starting Monday 5 May, Justice Dina Yehia will preside over a 20 day hearing into the Music Festival Searches class action in Court 10E (Sydney). The class action was lodged by plaintiff Raya Meredith. Otherwise known as a “representative proceeding”, the class action is on behalf of all people alleging they were unlawfully strip-searched for prohibited substances by police officers at NSW music festivals between 22 July 2016 and 22 July 2022. The class action has important implications for the rights of music festival attendees now and in future.
