(2) By way of penal notice, the defendant was warned that if she refused or neglected to do anything as she was ordered to do on 20 December 2024, that she may be liable to penalties.
[18] The defendant is now in breach of that order. She has persistently ignored the legal process in these proceedings. What is to be done?

After excise was taken from the States by s 90 of the Constitution in 1901, the States expanded their direct taxes, with income tax becoming their main form of tax revenue. During World War II, the Commonwealth took over income tax, with the promise of returning it to the States one year after the war ended. This did not happen.
