In two weeks' time, Australia's social media ban for children under 16 will come into force. Ten sites, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube, must comply with the new laws. While other popular platforms, like messaging apps and online games, are not covered. Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads, has begun notifying hundreds of thousands of account holders that their accounts will soon be locked unless they can verify they are not underage. Snapchat has done the same.
