Macdonald, Ian v R; Edward Obeid v R; Moses Obeid v R - NSW Caselaw
From NSWSC - “The Court of Criminal Appeal (Bell CJ, Basten AJA and Button J) has granted leave to appeal and dismissed the appeals against conviction brought by Ian Macdonald, Edward Obeid and Moses Obeid (the appellants). In 2020, the appellants were charged with conspiracy to commit wilful misconduct in public office. The Court upheld the trial judge's findings that Mr Macdonald, in his capacity as Minister for Mineral Resources, would take steps in connection with the grant of an exploration licence with respect to a coal reserve believed to exist under a property owned by the Obeid family at Mount Penny in the Bylong Valley for the improper purpose of advantaging the Obeids, their family and associates.”
