$22m in costs under spotlight
Costs of up to $22m in the stolen wages class action have been scrutinised by the FCA, with Mortimer CJ noting among other things that "Shine elected to plan what I consider was the most expensive way that the outreach and registration process and the book build could have been undertaken" - see McDonald v Commonwealth of Australia [2025] FCA 380
Juror discharged for entering court complex with knife
In R v Kanbut [2025] NSWDC 83 two jurors were discharged, one for entering the court complex with a folding knife, and the other for approaching the judge's associate at a social venue and seeking "to engage her in conversation with some persistence".
